Centennial Dental Sealants
What are Dental Sealants?
Centennial Dental sealants are intended to prevent tooth decay. Sealants act as a barrier to prevent cavities. They are a plastic material usually applied to the chewing surfaces of the back teeth (premolars and molars) where decay occurs most often.
The Centennial dental sealant acts as a barrier, protecting enamel from plaque and acids. As long as the sealant remains intact, the tooth surface will be protected from decay. Sealants hold up well under the force of normal chewing and may last several years before a reapplication is needed. During your regular dental visits, we will check the condition of the sealants and reapply them when necessary.
Are dental sealants for children only?
No, centennial dental sealants can be applied to children and adults. During your visit, please ask Dr. Johnston or your hygienist if dental sealants are an option for you.
How long do dental sealants last?
Research shows that dental sealants can last for many years if properly cared for. You or your child will be protected throughout the most cavity-prone years. If good oral hygiene is practiced daily sealants will last longer. Our dental team will check the sealants during routine dental visits and can recommend reapplication or repair when necessary.
What is the sealant application process?
The application of a centennial dental sealant is very quick and comfortable. It takes only one visit. The tooth is first cleaned. It is then conditioned and dried. The dental sealant is then flowed onto the grooves of the tooth and allowed to harden or hardened with a special light. You will be able to eat right after the appointment.
How much does it cost? Dental sealant treatment is very affordable, it is especially valuable since it offers protection from tooth decay. Most dental insurance companies cover sealants. Some companies, however, have age and specific tooth limitations. Our financial coordinator will be able to help you determine the covered services for your particular dental insurance company.
